WHO HURT YOU?
TicketsLike a live music video crossed with avant-garde dance theatre – and utterly steeped in young queer British culture, The Guardian wrote about WHO HURT YOU?
The bold British artist duo BULLYACHE visits Sort/Hvid during the Copenhagen Stage Festival with the insane performance WHO HURT YOU? An unorthodox mix of dance, video, concert, performance, and drag show. It’s Whitney Houston lip sync wrapped in leather. Glitter scattered over hellish punk. Intimate ballet duos meeting synchronized dance steps.
WHO HURT YOU? stages the final performance of an aged musician, hosted by the legendary British drag artist and pianist Barbs, alongside her embittered ensemble, all figures in fading glory contending with the ageing of the flesh, insecurity and the harsh reality beneath fantasy.
The ageing musician enters the stage whenever it suits the icon, Barbs drags around her grand piano, and the leads play off against the two dancers (Sam Dilkes and Frank Yang) and the classical violinist (Magnus Westwell). The newest member of the team, the agile young dancer Frank, quickly steals the attention with his extraordinary dance moves, and a violent battle between the two dancers takes over the broken glory of the big show
Performed by Deyn and Samuel (BULLYACHE), alongside Barbs, dancers Sam Dilkes & Frank Yang, string player/performer Magnus Westwell, the piece is a heady mix of biographical and autobiographical material. WHO HURT YOU? platforms BULLYACHE’s signature blurring of character and self and depicts the fear of not being enough and of seeing oneself surpassed by one’s own fictions.
