KLUB KREATUR: SKIFTING
Tickets“mentally feeble children are changelings, born of women who have had intercourse with the devil. Those children must be drowned, not out of pity, but because the devil in changelings has taken the place of the soul”. Luther
At this Klub Kreatur (Club Creature), musician Ida Duelund, musician Maria Jagd, set designer Maya Livingstone, actors Carla Viola Thurøe and Nicolai Duckert Perrild come together to explore the myth of changelings (in Danish “Skiftinger”) in a two week residency. In old European folklore, a changeling is a child who has been switched with a troll kid. A child who doesn’t fit in. A child who doesn’t develop like other children. It is a demonization of people who are different or outside the norm.
In an increasingly polarized world, where humanity and tolerance are under severe pressure, the team will search back into old myths and stories to understand how they have shaped our view of humanity. In a musical exorcistic performance, they will go into the deep, wild forest and meet the uncontrolled “dangerous” trolls who live there. They will drive the devil out of the old myth and bring us face to face with the “European” understanding of motherhood, the forces of nature and the troll as a metaphor for what is perceived as unnatural. At Klub Kreatur you are invited to a work in progress performance of SKIFTING. Come and turn our humanity inside out.
KLUB KREATUR
KLUB KREATUR is a recurring event at Sort/Hvid inviting you behind the scenes of the music theatre which is created here in the old slaughterhouse. The vibe is casual, the bar awaits and working artists open their laboratories to show the raw, crisp art while it is being created. It is a one-off performative experiment that only happens that one evening.
Included in the ticket is a free beer or soda. After the show you can meet the artists in an artist talk.
This Klub Kreatur is presented in collaboration with the The Danish Composers’ Society.
