KLUB KREATUR: SIRENE
TicketsIs it a death-rattling howl from the bottom of the sea? An animalistic groan? A laugh so shrill that it tears the sea apart? In a large water tank, something writhes with its limbs and gasps sounds that seem born long before human language.
For millennia, we have told stories about the mythical women of the sea, sirens; mermaids, creatures with glistening, wet skin and alluring voices who egged men at sea. They have been made into fantasies, into warnings, into desire. Now it is time to hear their perspective.
For this Klub Kreatur (Club Creature) we will place a two-meter-long aquarium on stage. Now it is time for the sirens’ song to be sung. In a one-week residency, actress Nanna Koppel, actress Marta Holm, singer Hávard Magnussen and sound artist Marco Colocci will examine the myth of mermaids, Homeric sirens and Faroese seal women. What does a world where the seas are dying out look like from the perspective of these mythical female figures? What would it sound like if they could express their experiences? What does the sirens’ song sound like from a dead seabed?
SIRENE will be a sonic performance. The team mixes early baroque opera with striptease, underwater microphones and electroacoustic field recordings from the Baltic Sea. Beautiful singing and brutal realism at the same time. At KLUB KREATUR you are invited to a work-in-progress performance of SIRENE.

KLUB KREATUR is a recurring event at Sort/Hvid inviting you behind the scenes of the music theatre which is created here in the old slaughterhouse. The vibe is casual, the bar awaits and working artists open their laboratories to show the raw, crisp art while it is being created. It is a one-off performative experiment that only happens that one evening.
Included in the ticket is a free beer or soda. After the show you can meet the artists in an artist talk.
