KLUB KREATUR: ILLIYEEN & RYONG
TicketsThrough her many works, artist Eliyah Mesayer creates a fictional state for the stateless. She calls it Illiyeen. Work by work, a new dimension is added to the state: it can be a postal service, a national anthem or uniforms. The next step will be taken at Sort/Hvid.
During their four days at Sort/Hvid Eliyah Mesayer, together with composer Ryong, investigates the 35 love paragraphs that make up the highest law of Illiyeen. They open their artistic laboratory at KLUB KREATUR on the 21st of November with a musical performance.
“The state of Illiyeen is inspired by the American thinker and feminist Bell Hooks’ legendary statement: “If there is no justice, there is no love”. Illiyeen therefore considers love to be a prerequisite for an equal and democratic society.” says Eliayah Mesayer. Mesayer is of Bedouin origin and lived as a stateless person for 27 years before she got her Danish citizenship. Her art consists of performance, visual art and poetry. She is also head of the Mesayer Foundation, where the profits from art auctions go to cover the costs of young stateless people seeking citizenship.
Isa Nam Sook also known as Ryong is a composer. She debuted in April 2024 with the record Isa Ryong. A record about gender transition and her Danish-Korean background and traditions. Her music is a kind of sound collage that she creates with everything from pop, Asian music, electronic riffs to conversations between people and the barking of dogs. Now the love paragraphs of the state of Illiyeen meets the sound universe of Ryong for a further exploration of the stateless state.
KLUB KREATUR
Experience ILLIYEEN & RYONG as part of Sort/Hvid’s new event KLUB KREATUR where both the bar and the art is open.
Come and have a drink with us and look behind the musical art that we create here in the old slaughterhouse. At KLUB KREATUR working artists open their laboratories and show the raw, crisp art while it is being created. It is a one-off performative experiment that only happens that one evening.
