FANFICTION THE THE OPERA

Tickets

The Court is set. The defendant is Don Giovanni. Prosecutor is the people.

Fast food and fine culture unite in an immersive McCourt, where Mozart’s opera canon is put before the people’s court. How will heroes, lovers and villains from iconic operas such as Don Giovanni, The Marriage of Figaro and Cosi fan tutte defend themselves against today’s view on gender, sex and freedom?

Berlin-based opera director Anna Sofie Keller and set designer Olivia Schrøder collaborate with composer Kirstine Fogh Vindelev to question the morality of the opera canon that we have been performing for hundreds of years. Absurd musical testimonies are sung in a new radical reinterpretation Mozart’s classic together with pop remixes and new compositions examining Mozart’s narratives of responsibility and guilt. Arias, intrigues and farces are unravelled by contemporary research, revealing, among other things, that one of the places rape victims seek refuge is at the fast-food chain with the golden M.

You enter an immersive mix of courtroom and fast-food restaurant. A true piece of fan fiction, where famous and beloved characters from Mozart’s operas are brought to trial and forced to give explanations. The verdict, you can take part in.
