SOLASTALGIA

Tickets

At Sydhavnstippen, a wilderness landscape on the outskirts of Copenhagen, a nomadic group of so-called lamenters offer their in-demand service – to sing the longing.

In a disrupted Europe with loss of habitats, automatized war zones, extinction of species and mega cities, an existential pandemic is spreading. Solastalgia it is called amongst psychologists – an existential longing felt when experiencing negative environmental changes in places dear to us. A fierce longing for “home”.

SOLASTALGIA reinterprets the tradition of the lament. A profession going back to before Christ. The lamenters’ job was to show up at funerals and sing out the sorrow, the anger and the daemons. In SOLASTALGIA the lamenters’ song is turned into a sci-fi musical. A site specific and interactive performance in a nearby future. A vocal choir piece created by wild voices and vibrations in the twilight of a human shaped landscape.

Do you remember SOLASTALGIA?
As part of our opening program as the stage for music theatre in 2021, audiences could experience the durational performance Solastalgia. The same artistic team is now continuing their exploration of musical analog catharsis with the nomadic society “Arcadia” at Sydhavnstippen.

Co-production between Sort/Hvid, Metropolis – Copenhagen International Theatre and Other Story
